I'm trying to figure out an OS for my Thinkpad 560 when the adapter for the CF card comes. Both of these distros can be installed to the CF card from a different computer (required if you want to suggest something). I'm going to be using a DWL-G650 for wifi, and it's going to have to connect to a WPA encrypted wifi network.

Pros TCL:
10MB
Newer kernel
Interesting to try out
Better hardware support probably.

Pros DSL:
I know how to use it.
Wifi definitely works.
Bigger repository

Cons TCL:
Not sure if it's going to work.
The only way to do wifi is via iwconfig, which is a massive PITA

Cons DSL:
I've tried it on this machine, X barely worked.
Old kernels are old.
Resource usage might be a wee bit too much.

So, what do you think I should go with? I'm personally leaning towards DSL, but tinycore is still an option. Can anyone suggest any other Linux distros that would run well on 40MB RAM, 233MHz proc, 4GB CF card?

I think I would go with DSL because it is familiar and well supported.

Yeah, I looked at some of the TCL FAQ and it looks like I'll need a good deal more RAM for it.
My only problem with DSL is that the last time I tried it on the Thinkpad (before the HDD died) X only worked in 800x600 with 4-bit color Neutral

I run INX (http://inx.maincontent.net/) from my CF card. (Cheapo 4GB $10 eBay one) Are you trying to run from PCMCIA? Because if you are, eBay has about a million cheap CF to laptop IDE adapters for less than $5 shipped. (I just had to snip an IDE pin to get it to fit) Man, I really am turning into an evangelist for that distribution on here... Very Happy ($15 SSD for the win.)

My dad wants it back for work actually, so I have to put FreeDOS/Win3.1 on it.
