I have an old Toshiba Tecra with about 80M of ram. I don't know how Win 95 ever ran on the thing. I can't begin to load Ubuntu with less than 250M (or so it says in the fine print) Is there any place that deals in obsolete memory? : |

Dude, you do not want to put Ubuntu anything on that.
Can you tell me more specifications (such as processor speed, hard disk size, etc.)?
(And Windows 95 could easily run in 8MB RAM) |

The best resource I've found is eBay. The memory is pretty expensive ( when compared to current-generation capacity and prices), but they're usually pretty good. I got a 512 stick of PC133 SDRAM last year for about $25. This is expensive when you at the time you could get roughly 2GB of DDR2 for the same money, but that 512 stick helped make my spare machine into a useable server. So I think it was money well spent.
Agreed, we'd have to know more about that machine you're thinking of putting ubuntu on. For something with very low resources, I'd suggest something like puppy or DSL. |

80 is pretty good for running some lightweight distro.
Don't aim for Ubuntu or it's "relatives"
DSL is pretty cool, yet it is LiveCD only (it offers HDD install, but is quite buggish there) (I liked old 3.x.x interface better than new 4.x.x)
You could also try Debian with custom selected lightweight packages, but that is advanced stuff - not recommended if you haven't quite a Linux experience already.
Puppy also should do fine, though never used myself. |

Yeah! INX looks quite fun, but I still prefer ye olde plain shell command line.
Thanks for the link! |
