Why care about old computers?
By using old computers we can help your wallet by preventing you from buying a new computer every 5 years because your current one is "too old".
A better answer can be found here
Well then, why use Linux?
Since Linux is customizable, many people have developed distributions of Linux that are meant for running on old computers or sub-par hardware.
But why go through the trouble of installing Linux, can't you just use whatever OS is on the computer already?
Most of the time the OS on the computer is proprietary and probably no longer supported by the original manufacturer or, more importantly, 3rd party software developers.
Well, I already have a newer computer, so why should I care about my old ones?
Even if you have a modern computer now, you can use the older ones for assorted tasks. More about that can be found here.
Well, actually I got rid of those old ones, so how will this benefit me?
Many of the OS's listed here are lightweight and don't use many resources, leaving those resources to other applications on your computer, meaning that you can run heavier applications.
For the most part, using a lightweight OS will speed up your computer up.
Suggest other questions you've heard (with the appropriate answers) and I'll add them to the OP. |
